Dentists examine, diagnose, and treat patients with problem areas ranging from teeth, gums, and other parts of the mouth. They handle a variety of dental needs. They work alone, have their own private practice, or work with a small staff.

Their work can lead to advanced clinical trials. They perform research to assign dosages, side effects, safety, benefits. There are different fields within pharmacology, such as toxicology. This is an area of science that focuses on advising companies on what they need to put on the label before distribution.
Clinical geneticists are responsible for direct clinical laboratory testing for inherited and acquired genetic disorders. They hold ABMGG certification in clinical, biochemical genetics, laboratory genetics and genomics (LGG), or both.
