Business Analytics for Professionals The BAP module provides the greatest potential for maximum return on training dollars! Every training module is designed to culminate with each participant having an opportunity to build a model /project relevant to their own business or professional objectives! List of Main Modules* Module 1: Business Analytics and Effective Decision Making-Using Spreadsheets This course teaches participants important data management dynamics and foundational principles for business analytics. Participants will gain hands-on experience in exploratory data analysis using Excel for descriptive statistics and basic data visualization. The workshop will focus on helping participants to gain business insights to support brainstorming and corporate decision-making. Module 2: Introduction to Business Analytics with R Participants will learn important data management dynamics and study the usage of R software for business analytics. R is a powerful data analysis software, with industry leadership in many domains, available as an entirely free full version for individuals and institutions. Participants will gain hands-on experience in data analysis techniques using R which will include importing and exporting datasets including working with large datasets, exploratory data analysis, basic statistical commands, data transformations, loading R packages and building of customized business-specific functions. Module 3: Data Management – Big data, Hadoop, Mongo DB and more. This introductory course in data management provides an updated industry perspective of the ‘Big-Data’ phenomenon including the management of information complexity, information volume-variety-velocity and information dimensions. Participants will gain an overview of specific distributed computing technologies such as Hadoop and MongoDB, techniques and strategies necessary to navigate the big-data environment, where the identification of the most valuable aspects of focused data collection as well as the digital footprint, storage and efficient processing creates value. Module 4: Data Mining – Finding what you need to do what you want to. This introductory course in data mining is aimed at equipping novice and intermediate practitioners with strategic understanding of meaningful and efficient data mining. The workshop will consist of presentation sessions and interactive exercises conducted in R. Some exposure to modeling and databases will be useful but the instructors will accommodate participants without experience in modeling and or R software as well. Module 5: Data Visualization – Communicating Data Discovery Participants will receive hands-on training in data visualization techniques. Participants will learn industry best practices to graphically represent the analysis of large datasets and make meaningful interpretations. They will gain hands-on experience in using Excel, R / Tableau and other tools to generate creative and fair graphical representation of data. This module will focus on helping participants to make business data-visualization based analytics presentations of business insights to support case arguments and corporate decision-making. Module 6: Web Analytics - Making sense of internet PABAP’s web analytics is designed to be relevant to managers, executives and professionals across domains including marketing though traditional (yes, already!) web analytics are limited to marketing. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the role and impact of social media analytics and associated tools and techniques. Participants will also gain an overview of multi-channel analytics, web data analysis and models for the identification of KPIs and development of actionable results. Module 7: Strategic Analytics – Simulations, Scenarios & Selection Complex scenarios with high stakes often require specialized analysis involving the simulation of key variables using scenario-relevant techniques and the creation of simulated data for analysis by itself or to augment existing data. Participants will receive hands-on training in simulation techniques. Participants will learn industry methods and models to represent complex business decision scenarios and make meaningful interpretations. They will gain hands-on experience in using Excel and R for simulations, model selection and development and evaluation of simulation outcomes. Module 8: Optimization & Decision Making – Key Concepts & Models in Prescriptive Analytics Optimization is a critical technique in business decision making across domains. Participants in this course will be first introduced to the development of an optimization mindset as a competitive advantage. Participants will then work through hands-on optimization exercises using Excel (mainly) and R, building optimization models across domains. Participant will learn to maximize, minimize and find optimal values in linear and non-linear models. Participant will also gain an overview of the mathematical technology and algorithms that drive optimization models.
