Many students who place into Foundations courses have the option of participating in free summer programs to complete their requirements the summer before they begin here at WPU. Below are descriptions of programs, our anticipated Summer 2024 session dates and links to sign up if you are eligible. Why should I take a summer program? Our Summer Foundations programs give the unique opportunity to complete mandatory non-credit courses for free. We provide materials, software, textbooks and instruction costs! No other University in New Jersey has such extensive free opportunities that allow students to get a head start on their college career. These programs help students get ahead - successful students often complete all requirements in their entering summer and begin with a complete college level course load. Students who attend in-person programs get a preview of WPU's campus, meet fellow students, staff and faculty, and have an opportunity to transition to the campus with the support of our workshop leaders, tutors and staff. Students who attend online programs also have the opportunity to participate in practice exams, tutoring, and workshops on campus before they begin courses in the fall. All students in summer FYF programs have the opportunity to participate in family workshops, work with Financial Aid and Counseling, Health and Wellness counselors before the fall to ensure their paperwork is in order and to get any assistance they need as they transition to the University. The in-person session will typically be on Saturday as students are available. The online workshop provides a live whiteboard and chat experience with an instructor. Students will be able to work on problems, ask questions and complete practice with an instructor and other students Flexible time online workshops are offered in math for those students whose schedules don't fit with any live workshop sessions. These sessions offer students the option to ask questions and get feedback asynchronously and a weekly opportunity to attend tutoring/practice exam sessions on campus. Reading Online Workshops are hybrid online workshop experiences guided by a Reading Specialist; students have daily reading practice, exercises and feedback from their instructor to assist in developing their college reading skills. Reading online programs are asynchronous - not live - allowing for more flexibility and reading time for students. These programs include online tutoring and online practice exams as part of the format - so students are fully able to be successful on their exit exam Online Refresher Programs These programs are offered in Math and Reading and are designed for students whose initial placement exam results are close to the college level cutoff score Online refreshers are self-paced, guided practice programs. Students will take diagnostic assessments that will create a study plan for the student. Students can receive online instruction, practice and review in those areas they need assistance in The program begins with an online diagnostic exam - students will receive feedback and a guide to what areas they should be developing. Programs are typically between 4 - 5 weeks and students can self-pace how they want to improve their skills; our program staff will be available to answer questions, provide guidance and recommendations and encourage program completion All Refresher students should take part in practice exams and tutoring - we have found this is very helpful for online students to get a more realistic assessment of their skills. It is also recommended that students begin with a pre-test to get a good sense of what topics they need to practice. At the end of the refresher students will complete their re-test to complete their requirement. Successful students can begin their subject (math, reading) at the college level. Exit Exams We will work with you for convenient date and time within the program. All reading and math programs require an exit exam for students to fulfill their developmental requirement.
