Students may be eligible for summer aid based on their registration status, the amount of aid received during the academic year (fall/spring) and available availability of funds from Federal & State Programs. Please review the information below carefully for more details.

Application Eligibility:

  • Have a valid 2023-2024 FAFSA listing WPU (school code: 002625) on file. 
  • You must be enrolled in a matriculating program for the summer at least half-time.

Graduate (WPOnline) *3 credits

*For WPOnline graduate students, they must be enrolled in 3 credits minimum in at least one summer session (Session 1 or Session 2).*

Federal Pell Grant:

You may be eligible to receive a Pell Grant if you have remaining eligibility. For example:

  • If you did not attend any school in the fall and attended WPU in the spring ad are pell eligible, or
  • If you were enrolled less than fulltime (12 credits) in either or both the fall and spring semester(s), you may have remaining/unused eligibility for the summer, or
  • If you enrolled halftime (6 credits) and have not reached your lifetime pell limit

Pell grant eligibility will be awarded regardless of a student's submission of a summer application if eligible. This grant is available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degree only.

NJ Tuition Aid Grant (TAG):

The Tuition Aid Grant will be available for the summer 2024. To be eligible students must meet the below criteria:

  • Have received a TAG award in the Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024 semester.
  • Be enrolled in 6 or more credits in the summer term.
  • Be enrolled in courses that are in the same undergraduate program at the same institution in which the student was enrolled during the fall or spring semester of academic year 2023-2024; AND 
  • Be enrolled in courses that may be credited towards the student's graduation or academic major requirements

TAG Grant eligibility will be awarded regardless of a student's submission of a summer application if eligible. This grant is available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degree only.

Federal Stafford Loans:

You must meet the halftime criteria outlined above based on your program AND have remaining Stafford loan eligibility. For example:

  • If you did not attend any school in the Fall and/or only borrowed part of your federal loans in the Spring term, or
  • You did not use all of your Federal Stafford loans for the academic year.

Should you be enrolled in less than half-time credits for the summer term, your loans will not disburse and be cancelled.

Graduate Loan Limits

Up to $20,500 Unsubsidized Stafford Loans for students enrolled in a graduate level degree program.

Important Information:

  • Financial aid will be awarded based on enrollment at the time of application (i.e., Federal Pell Grants, NJ State Aid (TAG), Federal Loans), as such, awards will be adjusted during the official drop/add period of each session should enrollment changes occur. Be advised that a reduction is enrollment may lead to the full cancellation of your summer awards (for example, loans awarded at 6 credits for an undergraduate student who subsequently drops to 3 credits). You will be responsible for any unpaid balance owed to the University.

  • Pell and TAG grants are only available to undergraduate students pursuing their first degree.

  • The actual amount of your TAG grant will be determined based on the number of credits you register for and the amount of your fall/spring TAG award.

  • TAG Grants are not to exceed Tuition, course and other fees will not be covered.

  • Graduate students must be enrolled graduate level courses.

  • All federal loan recipients must maintain halftime enrollment for the duration of the summer term to retain those funds.

  • Satisfactory Academic progress will be reviewed at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. Awarded students not meeting SAP will not be eligible to retain any federal/state awards and as such awards will be cancelled. 

  • If you are not enrolled in summer courses, you are not eligible to receive financial aid, even if you are living on campus.


Award Notification

Applications will be reviewed 24-48 business hours from the date of submission. Students will receive an email confirmation once the application has been reviewed indicating the outcome and next steps. Awarded students will also receive an updated Award letter outlining summer awards. Award information will also be available via WPConnect

Other Payment Options:

  • Loan programs are available, should aid not be available to you via the summer app or if you require additional funding. These loans require a credit check and may require additional time for processing so plan accordingly. The Federal Parent PLUS Loan is available to the parent(s) of Dependent Students, the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan is available to graduate students, as well as, Private Education Loans available to parent and/or student. PLUS loans are usually received for certification with 24-48hrs after submission, private education loans however, may take between 10-14 business days for processing.

  • Tuition Installment Plans (TIP) are available for summer which require a $25 enrollment fee  at the time of enrollment. Final payment will be due on June 24, 2024. WPOnline students are restricted from enrolling in the Tuition Installment Plan. 

Disbursement of Funds:

  • Disbursement of summer aid will begin on June 6, 2024 and as such students should plan accordingly for expenses as you cannot rely on having your financial aid funds available to pay for non-WPU charges (eg rent, bills, etc.).
  • Federal aid (federal loans and pell grant) will be disbursed once enrollment confirmation (your professor confirms that you have begun attendance) has been received for all enrolled courses by faculty.
  • State funds (TAG Grant) will not be disbursed until all courses for which you were awarded have begun
