November 3, 2020 Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Guillermo “Will” de Veyga to the newly created position of Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and University Relations, effective January 1, 2021. In this critical new role, Dr. de Veyga will oversee all University strategic plans and initiatives, manage strategic alliances, and participate in the development of operating and capital budgets, in addition to directing all of William Paterson’s many important relationships with community leaders and organizations, government representatives and entities, and other partners. Dr. de Veyga joins us after 11 years at New Jersey City University, during which time he has held a series of progressively senior positions, most recently serving as Chief of Staff to President Sue Henderson. In that role, he serves as NJCU’s chief external relations officer, creating and stewarding relationships with government and other stakeholders important to the university’s success. He joined NJCU in 2009 as a Program Coordinator in the College of Education and the office of Grants & Sponsored Programs before taking on the role of Director of Graduate Programs and then becoming, first, Assistant Vice President, and then Associate VP for Academic Affairs. For the past decade, he has taught in the Management Department of NJCU’s School of Business and also serves as an affiliate faculty in other departments at the University. Dr. de Veyga has presented and been published on many key issues in higher education, including access, advisement, retention, rankings, and Latinx student success. He is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he received a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy. He earned an M.B.A. from New Jersey City University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University and has participated in the Institute for Educational Management program at Harvard University. I am excited for this new position, which will help William Paterson establish new relationships and sources of support, better leverage existing ones, and ensure that we make the best use of all our resources. In Dr. de Veyga, we have been fortunate to find someone with the skills, experience, vision, and energy to help this great University become an even better place for all our students, faculty, and staff, for our surrounding community, and for all New Jersey Sincerely, Richard J. Helldobler, PhD President
