To the William Paterson community:

As you may have heard, we recently renamed Hobart Hall to Hamilton Hall in response to students and visitors who were confused by the fact that different buildings with different functions had similar names. The new name, approved by the University Board of Trustees at its June 27 meeting, differentiates the academic building – which houses our Department of Communication, the campus radio station, television studios, and the Martini Teleconference Center – from Hobart Manor, the administration building where the Offices of the President and Institutional Advancement are located. Accordingly, the Hobart Hall Annex is now Hamilton Hall Annex.

The new name was chosen to honor the great American statesman Alexander Hamilton, who had many ties to New Jersey, particularly to Paterson and our region.

The building’s signage already reflects this change. In the coming days, references on our website and elsewhere will also be updated.

Now, if someone stops you on campus and asks the way to Hamilton Hall, you’ll be able to point them in the right direction!

Sincerely,

Richard J. Helldobler, PhD
President
