Hertzog, Esq., as General Counsel to the University and Board of Trustees I am pleased to announce the appointment of Laura S. Hertzog, Esq., as the General Counsel to the University and Board of Trustees. Ms. Hertzog will begin in her new role on January 9, 2019, replacing Glenn R. Jones, who is retiring on December 31, 2018. Ms. Hertzog brings extensive legal background in higher education to William Paterson University. Since 2013, she has served as special counsel to the president and dean of faculty and staff relations at Hunter College, City University of New York, providing legal advice for litigation, employment and labor law, governance, fundraising, and contracts, among other duties. She also served as the labor designee and chief ethics officer at Hunter. Prior positions include director of EEO/diversity and inclusion executive education programs at Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, dean for diversity and compliance and special assistant to the president for campus relations at Hunter College, and director of global diversity at Credit Suisse First Boston/NYC. Ms. Hertzog was a litigator at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and has worked as a litigator and administrator at other firms, as adjunct faculty at Fordham University School of Law and Brooklyn Law School, and as a full-time faculty member at New York University Law School. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Mary Johnson Lowe, USDJ in New York. Ms. Hertzog earned an AB in East Asian studies from Princeton University, JD cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review, and MA in history from Montclair State University. Ms. Hertzog is the current president of the Montclair Board of Education and is a member of the Executive Thought Leaders Advisory Board for the National Executive 50 Senior Leadership Academy. She was formerly a trustee for the Adult School of Montclair, member of the Montclair Achievement Gap Advisory Panel, and commissioner and vice chair of the Montclair Township Civil Rights Commission. She was a founding advisory board member and champion of the International Society of Diversity and Inclusion Professionals. Ms. Hertzog has been an invited speaker at national and international venues. I want to thank the members of the search committee for their diligence in recommending candidates for this position.
