Minor in Sound Engineering Arts (SEA)

The Sound Engineering Arts (SEA) minor allows students to explore the recording and live sound arts. This minor fosters a more nuanced understanding of music production, including microphone usage, working with DAWs, basic editing, mastering, and production techniques. Non music majors who are interested in sound production may also participate in this minor.

The SEA minor is different from our DMC (Digital Music Creation) minor because the SEA minor is primarily a sound engineering minor, whereas the DMC is primarily a digital composition minor. There is some overlap in content, but the intent and focus are fundamentally different. SEA students spend more time working with both digital and analog equipment and go deeper into the science behind audio production, including electronics, acoustics, and the construction and maintenance of recording studios. The DMC students are more focused on composing original music through the digital medium.
