Leaders In Action

LEADERS IN ACTION

Leaders in Action is a positional leadership training that aims to enhance student's leadership styles and approaches, help student leaders to maximize their clubs potential, covers policies and procedures at William Paterson University, and promotes club engagement in their communities.  

Outcomes:         

Students who participate the Leaders in Action badge will:

  • learn and develop knowledge, skills and experiences to lead others in achieving a common goal.
  • participate in a variety of workshops that develops leadership skills, abilities and knowledge.
  • engage in experiences that develop leadership and service.

Requirements:  

Students must attend at least one (1) event in all four competency areas and hold a leadership position in a University-recognized student club or organization.

Leaders in action Badge consists of four major competencies:

Management and Foundational Competency

Management and foundational competency focuses on instruction that allows student leaders to have a base knowledge of club management and club leadership.  This competency will focus on the foundational components of club management by introducing students to the variety of support services the campus can provide club leaders.  

Recruitment and Retention Competency

Recruitment and retention competency focuses on skills club leaders will need to encourage new members to join, support current ones to stay engaged, and inspire seasoned members to run for leadership positions. 

Communication Competency

Communication competency focuses on skills club leaders will need to articulate the goals and mission of the club and to help state intentions when working with others.  This competency will focus on making sure club leaders have the skills to resolve conflicts, manage varied personalities and ensure their members are functioning at high levels. 

Engagement Competency

The engagement competency focuses on skills club leaders will need to connect with their communities.  On campus, off campus, Academic, and social environments.  Training will focus on skills leaders will need to make change and provide positive improvements to their communities.
