David Sedaris, Bestselling Author and Humorist, to Speak on October 1 as Part of William Paterson University Distinguished Lecturer Series


David Sedaris, one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers, brings his signature acerbic humor, social commentary, and outlandish stories to William Paterson University in Wayne on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 as part of the Distinguished Lecturer Series.

The event, titled “An Evening with David Sedaris,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus. Tickets are $70, Gold Circle; $65 for orchestra/front loge; and $50 for rear loge.

Sedaris is a known as a master of satire and one of today’s most observant writers. Beloved for his personal essays and short stories, he is the author of the New York Times best- sellers Barrel FeverHolidays on IceNakedMe Talk Pretty One DayDress Your Family in Corduroy and DenimWhen You Are Engulfed in FlamesLet’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, and Calypso. 

His pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” The two volumes of his diaries, Theft by Finding: Diaries (1977-2002) and A Carnival of Snackery, Diaries (2003-2020) were New York Times bestsellers. His most recent book, Happy-Go-Lucky, debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. The audio version of Happy-Go-Lucky, written and narrated by Sedaris, won the 2023 Audie Award. 

Sedaris has been nominated for five Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. Currently, he is a regular contributor to CBS Sunday Morning, and his Masterclass, David Sedaris Teaches Storytelling and Humor, is now available.

William Paterson University’s Distinguished Lecturer Series is in its 43rd season of bringing leading personalities from the worlds of politics, government, the arts, literature, sports, science, and business, along with original programs, to the University’s campus in Wayne. In the four-decade history of the series, more than 175 public figures, including British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, journalist and activist Gloria Steinem, composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, actor and playwright Anna Deveare Smith, former New York Yankee and musician Bernie Williams, and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, have made presentations to 100,000 audience members.
