Alpha Lambda Delta The National Honor Society for First-Year Success As of spring 2021, New Student Programs establishes a chapter of the National Honor Society Alpha Lambda Delta for our first-year students at William Paterson University! Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 1924 at the University of Illinois. Alpha Lambda Delta celebrates academic excellence among first-year students and has grown to over 280 chapters and has initiated over one million students. This National Honor Society provides a community of scholars, a platform to develop first-year students’ leadership skills, and financial support through scholarships and educational partnerships.
Membership Criteria First-Year student must be enrolled full-time and earn a minimum of 12 credit hours at William Paterson University. First-Year student must earned a 3.5 grade point average or higher his/her 1st semester at William Paterson University. *At the conclusion of a first-year student’s 1st semester at William Paterson University, eligible Pioneers receive a congratulatory communication from New Student Programs inviting students to join WP’s Alpha Lambda Delta chapter. **Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) encourages academic excellence throughout students’ collegiate career. However, once a student has met the criteria for membership and has been initiated, membership cannot be revoked. ALD seniors who graduate with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA may receive a senior certificate acknowledging of their achievement. And, all members, regardless of cumulative GPA at the time of graduation, are allowed to wear ALD regalia.
