What is Starfish for Student Success?

  • Starfish is a new platform we are using to help faculty and staff guide students towards a positive and successful academic experience.
  • It also assists students in getting feedback, identifying next steps and connecting with support systems on campus

Where can I access Starfish?

  • In WP Connect you can access Starfish under the student page - it's the first link under Student Services
  • In WP Connect you can access Starfish under the Faculty and Advisor Page - it's the first link under Early Alert

How do I get started?

  • Use the navigation menu on the left to choose how you are using Starfish - are you a faculty member, student or staff person?
  • Once you choose your role, you will be guided through getting started - how to set up a profile, complete a progress survey or ask for help
  • Then - check your Starfish page daily to look for changes and updates, connect with resources and stay on track!
  • In order to assist you with the use of Starfish, there will be a series of community workshops specifically designed for faculty and staff.

    How Are Progress Surveys Used and What Happens Once I Flag a Student?

    This workshop will walk faculty and others through the intervention process. We will review what supports there are for students, who is reaching out and helping students, how specific flags are handled and what does it mean when a flag is cleared. Time for Q and A and discussion will be a part of this program.

    Checking on Student Progress - How Can I Help Students Get Assistance?

    This workshop will focus on how to view notes and comments on flags and how to help connect students to all types of assistance on campus. We will review what language we use when doing outreach with students around faculty concerns and sample communications.This will also include strategies for encouraging tutoring and skills workshop attendance, along with an outline of key services and contact persons on campus.Time for Q and A and discussion will be a part of this program.
