While the University operates remotely during the remainder of the spring semester, a wide array of resources are available to serve students either online or over the phone. We are here to assist you even if we are not on campus!


Online Academic Resources

Blackboard – For information on using Blackboard, the University’s learning management system, visit the Information Technology Wiki.

Cheng Library The Cheng Library facility is closed but librarians are ready to assist with a variety of resources in support of online learning including:

  • 24/7 Chat Reference
    Chat with a WP librarian during regular business hours or get help from a professional librarian after hours.

  • Virtual Research Consultations
    Schedule an online research consultation if you need more involved assistance, or want a one-on-one session with a librarian.

  • Databases, E-books, & Streaming Videos
    Access the library’s wide array of articles through its databases, and its collection of almost 200,000 e-books and large collection of streaming videos at home. Please contact the library if you need help finding or using these resources.

  • Tutorials
    The library has a number of useful tutorials on its website.

  • Contact Us

Online Academic Support Services

Remote Live Tutoring – All tutors are real people, and tutoring is live!

  • Tutor.com – Use the link on the main page in Blackboard; it’s free, live and covers most courses with 24/7 access.


Learning Skills Help –
here are some tips and strategies for how to learn and be successful in an online course and study strategies that can be used even in an online setting.


Online Course Content, Explainers, and Practice –
Sometimes it’s helpful to see a topic reviewed step by step. Get some additional explanations or practice problems when trying to learn more independently.

  • Khan Academy – Video lessons and practice materials on a wide range of subjects. Lessons are instructional and step by step for math, sciences, computer science, some humanities, economics and NCLEX or PRAXIS exam study.

  • Duolingo and Memrise are free language practice apps and websites. They don’t provide formal lessons, but are great for motivated practice!

  • CrashCourse – Online lessons across a wide range of humanities, social sciences, science and arts topics. Videos are accessible, free and designed for you to take notes and learn!

  • LinkedIn Learning – Access this through the apps button on WP Connect. Use the search bar for a topic or browse for courses. This is also a good starting point to learn how to navigate Blackboard and other online tools.


Study Apps and Resources
Creating games and your own study materials are great ways to learn on your own and make material accessible! Look through these options to see what works best for you.

  • Quizlet – free learning app for phone or web – create practice quizzes, flash cards and study tools.

  • StudyShack – free for phone or computer -use materials downloaded by others or create study games with your own materials.

  • Brainscape and Studies are phone only apps that allow you to create flash cards using your own materials.

  • Tutor.com Meeting spaces – Use the “Join a Meeting” tab at the top of tutor.com to schedule a remote study session with classmates. This is available to all students once you click into our Tutor.com site from the main page of Blackboard and includes chat, sharing a screen, file sharing, and whiteboard.


Advisement

Advisement Center: Spring appointments with academic advisors are being held remotely. Talking with your advisor on schedule will help ensure you stay on track and are able to register for fall classes during your registration timetable. It’s a good idea to start by emailing your advisor to schedule an appointment. Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid staff is working to address your inquiries and continues to process financial aid functions. While our office is closed to visitors, our voicemails and emails are being monitored remotely. We will respond as soon as possible, within 24 hours on business days. Registration Services

  • Register for the Fall 2020 Semester: click here for Fall 2020 registration timetables and information. Please also be sure to schedule an appointment with your advisor to prepare for registration and get your alternate PIN, which is needed to register for fall classes.

  • Consider summer classes: Summer Session 2020 offers you a valuable opportunity get ahead, stay on track toward graduation, or catch up on needed credits.


Counseling, Health, and Wellness

As students complete the semester online, the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center (CHWC) will continue to make health and counseling services accessible to students via phone/video appointments. Learn more at the CHWC website or call 973-720-2257 or 973-720-2360.


Student Emergency Support Fund

Students who are experiencing an unanticipated and/or temporary hardship resulting from an emergency and/or crisis situation related to COVID-19 may apply for an emergency financial assistance grant from the Student Emergency Support Fund. Click here to learn more.

One-on-One Consultations

For a one-on-one consultation about remote instruction using Blackboard, please make a Help Desk ticket at wpunj.edu/helpdesk. Choose the Blackboard ticket type and then CTT Faculty Consultation. This is the best way to set up a time to work with one of the CTT instructional designers. If you are not going to be on campus, ask for a Blackboard Collaborate remote session for your consultation.
