Federal Direct Stafford Loans
Active Acceptance of Direct Loans
William Paterson University participates in the Active Acceptance of Federal Direct Stafford Loans. This means that students MUST sign into WP Connect to ACCEPT their Federal Direct Student Loans. You will be presented with 3 options:
1. Accept Full Awards, 2. Decline Awards, or 3. Accept Partial Awards. Click here for more information.
Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
Entrance Counseling helps you understand your rights and responsibilities as student loan borrower and provides the terms and conditions associated with your loan(s).
Direct Loan Promissory Note.
The Direct Loan Promissory Note is used to make one or more loans for one or more academic years (up to 10 years).
If you are a student borrower under the Direct Loan Program attending a school that is authorized and chooses to make multiple loans under the same loan for more than one academic year, you will only sign one note. It will be used for all of your loans over multiple academic years. For example, if you enroll in college as a freshman and borrow under the Direct Loan Program for all years of study, you may be able to borrow this note for all the years. Student must be enrolled at least half-time - 5 graduate credits for Graduate students & 6 credits for undergraduate students.
Parent / Graduate PLUS Loans
Parent PLUS Application
The Direct PLUS Loan Request is a 4–step web form that will be used instead of a paper process. The parent must sign in to the StudentLoans.gov web site with his or her Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID ). A parent who does not have an FSA ID can request one via the Federal Student Aid ID web site (fsaid.ed.gov). The undergraduate student for which the loan is being applied must be enrolled atleast half-time (6 credits)
Graduate PLUS Application
The Graduate PLUS Loan Request is a 4–step web form that will be used instead of a paper process. The student must sign in to the StudentLoans.gov web site with his or her Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID). A borrower who does not have an FSA ID can request one via the Federal Student Aid ID web site (fsaid.ed.gov)
Student must be enrolled at least half-time (5 graduate credits).

Please be advised if the above-requested reduction or cancellation produces a balance with the University, you are responsible and must submit your payment to the Center for Student Services.

Stafford Loan Exit Counseling
Prior to graduating or leaving school, Stafford Loan borrower's recipients must complete exit counseling. The Stafford Loan Exit Counseling will explain your rights and responsibilities as a Stafford Loan borrower. The Exit Counseling session will take about 30-40 minutes to complete.
