Federal  Verification

Verification is a process where the Financial Aid office checks the accuracy of information the student provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In this process, WPU will be comparing information from your application with signed copies of your (and your parents/and or spouse’s, if you married) federal tax forms/official IRS transcripts, or with W-2 forms or other financial documents. You must submit this information before your Federal Aid is disbursed. If there are differences between your application information and your financial documents WPU will submit corrections, and adjust your aid based on your eligibility.

If you have been selected for a process called Verification through the U.S. Department of Education, this is the package you must complete and return to the Financial Aid office.

Additional Information

Verification must be completed or you *WILL NOT* be eligible to receive any financial aid funds, including Stafford Loans. The NJ Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) also requires that all students selected for federal verification meet those requirements before receiving any funds from the State of New Jersey.

Failure to respond to requests for verification or other additional information requests will jeopardize your current and future receipt of financial assistance.

Once the Financial Aid Office has received all documentation and processed the file, your financial aid awarding will commence.

Federal Income Tax Reporting

New federal regulations require that students/parents submit official 2013 IRS Tax Return Transcripts, Tax Account Transcripts and/or Record of Account if selected for verification; paper copies of federal income tax returns CANNOT be accepted as they do not meet the federally mandated requirements. Federal Income Tax Return “transcripts” can be obtained by contacting the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at 1-800- 829-1040, or  http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript. The tax filer can print, save, and/or forward the PDF IRS Tax Return Transcript as necessary.

Completed documents may be faxed to 973-720-3133, or e-mailed to finaid@wpunj.edu. All requested documentation must be submitted by June 1.

STATE

If you are a New Jersey resident receiving state aid, the NJ Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) program or other state aid, the state may select your file for state verification.  In some cases, HESAA may request the same information that was requested by WPU Financial Aid Office.  You must forward the same information and documentation to HESAA to avoid a delay in awarding, disbursement or loss of your state aid altogether.  To ensure that your financial aid funds disburse as scheduled please submit all required documentation before state deadlines.

For your convenience, you may now link directly to the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) to report the required additional information to be considered for state aid. Consortium Agreement
Occasionally students want to spend a semester or academic year at another domestic institution and transfer the hours earned back to the WPU. Students often enroll simultaneously at WPU and a community college and want to combine the hours at both institutions for financial aid purposes. It is possible to receive financial aid under these circumstances as long as certain requirements are met.

You  cannot  receive  financial  aid  at  both  institutions  for  the  same  courses.  You  must  declare  which  institution  is  to  be  considered  the  “home  school”  for  financial  aid  eligibility  purposes.  If  you  have   been  approved to  attend  another  institution  during  a  semester  for  part  or  all  of   your  educational  requirements,  you  can  receive  financial  aid  for  that  semester  if  approved  in  advance   and  if  a  consortium  or  contractual  agreement  is  executed  between  WPU  and  the  other  institution.  (For more information regarding this topic, contact Financial Aid Office directly.)

FERPA
WPUNJ participates in the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) for our student records policy. Please be aware that students would complete the FERPA Form to give permission to the University to speak with anyone other than the student. Students may authorize release of their academic, financial aid, student account and/or disciplinary recordsto a third party (i.e.., parents grandparents, etc.) by completing the FERPA form on-line.  You may adjust access to the respective records at any time by simply logging into WPConnect Self Services under "Student Records".  These permissions will remain active until your anticipated date of graduation.
