The Department of Elementary & Early Childhood Education's mission is to prepare inquiring and reflective educators to teach in diverse settings at the pre-school through grade eight levels in the public schools of New Jersey. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered to students who are pursuing elementary/early childhood education as a profession and to certified teachers who want to enhance their professional development and practice through graduate study.

Attention Teacher Education Candidates:

The required PRAXIS II test(s) must be taken and passed prior to student teaching.
For more detailed information regarding the PRAXIS, please click here.

Beginning in the fall of 2014, a 3.0 cumulative GPA is required to enter all education majors and to begin taking education couses. Students who have already matriculated in their education major will not be held to the 3.0 at least for the 2014-2015 academic year. The New Jersey Department of Education has not yet announced when the 3.0 requirement will be in effect for all students seeking certification. In addition, candidates must have a 3.0 GPA in their education courses in order to student teach.
