The mission of the Career Development and Gloria S. Williams Advisement Center is to empower students to define and achieve their career goals. Maximize your career planning and job hunting skills by taking advantage of our broad range of services:
An up-to-date resource center contains an extensive selection of career material and literature, job hunting guides, employment listings, graduate school information, salary surveys and instructional videotapes. A new online service is also availabe which allows you to access our career library electronically at Career Insider.
Many local and regional employers contact our office for their hiring needs. These listings can be viewed on our homepage at the University's website, under WP Job Connect, and also in the Career Library. Seniors, remember to pick up your free copy of the "Job Choices" - either the Business or Science and Technology edition - for job listings from companies across the nation.
Begin your senior year by reading the outstanding planning guides ordered just for you (Job Search Handbook for Educators or Planning Job Choices). They will take you step by step through the job search process, offer insights into planning for graduate school and tips on how to market yourself most effectively.
It is highly recommended that students open a WP Job Connect account. By doing so this on-line service will enable you to create a professional quality resume and register with the Career Center for computerized job referral.
Unsure about what types of jobs your major qualifies you for? Don't know where or how to look for a job? Getting interviews, but no offers? Professional counselors will schedule day or evening appointments to help you with decision-making and career-pathing, resume writing, interview skills, strategies to penetrate the job market and much more.
Underclassmen, in addition to seniors, are encouraged to attend these campus events to network and explore a wide variety of current and potential employment opportunities. Check our homepage, bulletin boards and public relations materials for programs and dates, including graduate school and job fairs at other locations.
