Grow Your Business

How to Build on Your Success:
A Professional Approach to Sales

Center Resources

Among the resources that the Center for Closely Held Business provides are:

Educational forums on the unique situations faced by family and closely held enterprises

Opportunities to develop or improve management skills through practical hands-on workshops and case study sessions

Peer-to-peer mentoring, networking opportunities, and best-practice sharing among family and closely held business firm members

Research support to increase public knowledge, awareness, and
understanding of the contributions of family and closely held businesses to the economy and to the quality of life in communities

Future resources will also include consulting and advisory services from William Paterson University faculty, Small Business Development Center advisors, corporate sponsors, and other professional service providers

The Center will in future also offer internship opportunities and curriculum development for William Paterson University students to prepare them for jobs in family and closely held firms

“My husband Les Guthrie and I donated the seed money to launch the Center for Closely Held Business because we saw a need for this initiative. We have worked together in business with family members— including children, spouses, and granchildren—for close to thirty years. The challenges and situations that arise for people who work together in a closely held company are unique. Our intent was to create a forum that addressed these issues.”
